Adding an Online Resume with Emurse.com

A couple days ago I took on the project of creating a more full online presence in “Creating an Online Persona…”

I’ve taken the first step that I set out for myself by setting up a online resume with Emurse.com. Emurse allows me to create and host an online resume for free and lets interested parties search on it. It also appears that there are some business networking functions, but I have not yet delved into that yet. It also tells me available jobs that match keywords in my resume and shows me if my resume is being looked at or downloaded.

Setting up the resume was pretty straight forward, and after I chose the design (3 types for the free accounts, more for the paid version) I was ready to go.

Here is the resume I created as a first pass.

Now, I’m happily employed but it is always a good idea to have a current resume available and to keep it updated. I’ve been pretty bad about this, since I haven’t updated my resume since I started working for my current employer 4 years ago. I slapped a quick one together for the site and will update it more when I get my old resume off one of my backups. My girlfriend has a friend that is a certified resume consultant, so I am going to have her take a pass at it as well. One of the cool things Emurse offers is a little box that that you can attach to your webpage which offers your resume in different formats. I’ve attached it here…

So I’ve taken my first step towards what I feel is creating a decent online persona. I’ll keep updating as I go. In the mean time, if there are any professional resume consultants with too much time on there hands and want to offer up any advice for pumping up my resume for free, I would be more then happy to take them up on it :)

Creating an online persona…

March 29th, 2007 | 2 Comments | Posted in Blogging, Online Identity, Sean Lavelle

I’ve been giving some thought about how I want to go in the direction of blogging and all these nifty Web2.0 type services. After reading a good article on Web Worker Daily about “Why You May Need an Online Persona”, I got to thinking. I work in technology, and yet i don’t have really any online presence. So I have decided to make an ongoing effort to create one. A google search on me. reveals nothing (wow is that depressing…). Since I work in technology, I would like to have my online presence be somewhat professional, as well as be a reflection of the charming indiviual that I am. So I have outlined a plan to get started:

  • Create a Linkedin Profile and start to build some relationships
  • Create an Emurse Profile
  • Create a PBWiki about myself
  • Register a domain name to tie it all together
  • Create a Facebook entry
  • Update this blog and tags

So I am going to get started over the next couple of days and will keep doing it as I am able. As I am new to all this any sugestions would be appreciated…

Another Blog?!?!?

Why start another blog? I have both Digital Pincushion and 4% Bloc, but as much as I like computer security, it is exhausting to write about constantly and to provide fresh content for. Same if not doubly so for 4% politics, so I thought I would start one that is not focus so heavily and it would let me write as I wanted on whatever I felt like, and if I have more thoughts on those issues, then I can update them at my leisure. So that is as far as I am going to go about that…
