A Crisis of Miniscule Proportions…

… Or: My Blogging Dilemma.

     So, recently I have been having some thoughts about multiple blogs. Initially when I started this, it seemed that that successful bloggers stay focussed on a single subject. And that is what I started doing. I had 2 seperate blogs, plus this one. One for computer security and one for politics/current events and then this one for me. Now Digital Pincushion (my security blog) seemed to generate a decent amount of traffic, while 4% Bloc (my politics blog) generated a fair amount of discussion.

But, with all these varied topics, I had a hard time generating a consistent flow of content. Then I started thinking, what do I really want to accomplish with these blogs? I know that I am never going to make a living blogging. That isn’t why I got into it. I wanted to have a place where I could express myself and talk about my interests.

So I guess that I am going to post all new content regarding security and computers on this blog and try the centralized approach for a while.

Google’s My Maps

I just created a map on Google’s new Maps function, My Maps.  It should be publicly searchable now, but it will probably take some time to get indexed.  Anyways, it is a cool feature that lets you add personal content to Google maps.  I uploaded some pictures we took while in Merida, Mexico last year.

It was extremely easy.  Just set a placemark, name it and fill in some content.  I just dumped the image urls from my flickr photos in as the content, and the boxes filled with my pictures. It gives an interesting juxtaposition of bird’s eye and street level views of a place.  You can also export it as a KML file and view a more high resolution set of maps with Google Earth.  Unfortunately, the formatting in Google Earth messed up the pictures so you can’t see them all.  They display fine in My Maps though.

I look forward to using this handy feature to annoy my friends and relatives in the near future with more vacation pictures
