Writing Gets Easier

February 26th, 2008 Posted in Blogging, Tip

writing.jpgFor about 3 weeks now I’ve been trying to post everyday (on weekdays). And the thing is, once you get writing, it seems to get easier. I’ve not had to really struggle to put out an entry (which seemed to be the case earlier, where once a week was hard for me to stick to). When I look back, there are a couple things that I changed that seemed to make all the difference.

Try to write at least once a day. - This doesn’t mean writing and then posting that days entries. In fact, I almost never do it unless I see something that strikes my eye and I want to get it out right away. Generally, I will at least note down some ideas that may become posts.

Strike while the iron is hot. - Sometimes I am really in the mood to write. I can take an afternoon and bang out a weeks worth of posts without breaking a sweat. When I’m in the mood, I will try to write as much as possible. I’ll really just try to knock it out without regard to polishing the writing or spell checking or formatting. The most important thing for me is to get the ideas down on the page.

Go to the well when you need to. - Sometimes, I just don’t have as much new content as I want. I’ve seen other bloggers republish old articles or “classic”. I have articles from a blog I stopped writing a while ago that I will throw up if I am running short of new content.

Make it a priority. - Actually putting writing time on your task list or todo list will make it harder for it to fall by the wayside. Establishing it as a personal goal will also hope. As long as it is on your mind, it won’t get pushed to the wayside.

Most of these tips seem pretty basic, and they are. But just putting them together has really increased my output.
