Sweet Corn Festival

August 29th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Photography, Random

Yesterday Jess and I went to the Sweet Corn Festival in Millersport, Ohio.  First we got there about 2 hours too early and it was overcast and muddy, but it was still fun.  Of course, there was way too much fried food as well as lots of corn.  I also manged to injure myself doing the thing you hit that rings a bell.

Jess was manning the camera and took some nice photos.  They are up on flickr for anyone interested.

Getting Back On Track

August 26th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Sean Lavelle

I’ve been off since the wedding and running around like a crazy person, but now I’m trying to ease back into the regular day to day routine and will try to be more active on the blogging front again.  It’s been kind of weird.  I’ve really had very little motivation to hop back on the horse after taking so much time off and that has delayed me even more.

I basically spent the week after the wedding either cleaning, or sleeping and got just about nothing accomplished.  I am really hoping to get out of that habbit and start moving back to being more productive.  I want to do at least one post (maybe more ) about the wedding but there has been a bit of an issue that hopefully will be resolved in the next couple days and I would like to get it taken care of before I go into any detail.

Well, that is it for now, back to the grind.

Back and Married

August 19th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Sean Lavelle, Web

This weekend was awesome.  I don’t think I could have asked for a better wedding (scratch that, if my grandparents could make it it would have been better).  But we just had a great time.  I’ll write about it a little more later, but uber-geek and all around great guy Kev from TecKH shot some video with his Iphone and put it on Qik.  No Sound, but still awesome. A Year Older And Hopefully Wiser

August 11th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Random, Sean Lavelle

Saturday I turned 32.  It was really low key.  I spent the day doing some yard work and then we walked down to a local restaurant (Giuseppe’s - great Italian food in Bexley if you are in east Columbus) and some ice cream.  It was really nice.  I find I don’t need to have a crazy thing for my birthday anymore, which is a sure sign I am getting older :)

Anyways, it got me thinking about the last year.  Last year at this time I really would have no idea that I would be where I am now.  In the last year I’ve:

  • Traveled to India
  • Got engaged
  • Traveled to Puerto Rico
  • Bought a House

It won’t be i exactly the same year, but I am getting married on Saturday as well.

All in all, I am guessing that 2007-2008 is going to go down as a pretty monumental year for me. Just kind of weird that things change so quickly in a year.

From The Insanity Files

August 5th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Random

It was a case of weird synchronicity today.  This morning on the way in to work I was listening to “God Wills It - Understanding the Crusades” which is a series of lectures given by Prof Thomas Madden.  Today I was listening to the part about how after the first crusade, various religious-military orders developed.  The most famous of these orders was the Knights Templar.

Then I come in today and see this:

The Association of the Sovereign Order of the Temple of Christ, whose members claim to be descended from the legendary crusaders, have filed a lawsuit against Benedict XVI calling for him to recognize the seizure of assets worth 100 billion euros (£79 billion).

Yes, the Knights Templar are suing the Pope. Full story from the Telegraph here.

Wow.

Thanks to Charlie Stross for this bit of weirdness

Awesome Pictures of The Large Hadron Collider

August 4th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Photography

Boston.com has a great set of pictures of the Large Hadron Collider at CERN.  I think the aerial shot is my favorite.

Thanks Phil at BadAstronomyBlog for the link (and congratulations as the new president of the JREF!)
