RIP David Foster Wallace
September 15th, 2008 Posted in Uncategorized
David Foster Wallace, author of Infinite Jest, A Supposedly Fun Thing I will Never Do Again, and Brief Interviews With Hideous Men (among others) took his own life this weekend. Although sometimes he was too obtuse for my taste, other times he could cut to the heart of the matter with great insight.
“[T]he likeliest reason why so many of us care so little about politics, is that modern politicians make us sad, hurt us deep down in ways that are hard even to name, much less talk about. It’s way easier to roll your eyes and not give a shit.”
*Update - Slate has a great piece on Wallace with a link to some of his work.
