The Bailout Rant

I’m not sure where I stand on the bailout that failed yesterday.  Will the market work itself out?  Will we get plunged into a massive depression?  No body seems to know.  What I do know is that congress disgusted me yesterday.  Not because the bailout didn’t pass, but because the way it didn’t pass.

If this was a case of a principled stand by free market conservatives who saw this as unneeded government interventionism, I would have understood.  I wouldn’t have completely agreed but I would have understood. Behind all the rhetoric though, it was obvious that this was just a case of spinelessness.  Not enough political “coverage” was provided.  It was an unpopular measure that no one wanted to been seen taking an unpopular stand on in an election year.  Pure and simple.

I just had to sit there in a stupor after the measure failed and John Boehner came out and said it was because of Nancy Pelosi’s “partisan speech” that they couldn’t get enough members to vote for it. That is one of the most disgusting excuses I have ever heard from a Congress that has made making disgusting excuses an art form. If they felt that the bill was needed, but didn’t vote because a speech hurt their feelings and plan to punish the country for it I don’t even know what to say.

My advice to everyone is to throw them all out.  We need a clean start and a Congress that does more then attempt to cover it’s ass by being inoffensive as possible and not taking a stand on anything. Everyone seems to think that Congress is a mess but their particular Congressman (or women) is one of the few good ones. That is not the case.

Just as a side note, because of gerrymandering and my move to the east side of Columbus I will get to vote against Pat Tiberi (R OH-12) this year. My advice to vote them all out would be the same if I lived in a district where I didn’t find the representation quite so odious, but it gives me a bit of a smile to be able to advocate throwing this particular person out on his well padded ass.
