Black Swallowtail Caterpillar Pictures

Written by sean on June 19, 2007 – 10:00 pm -

We found a bunch of really neat looking little caterpillars on one of the fennels we were growing in the garden. A guy we were talking to told us they were the “Giant Horned Tomato Executioner Moth” or some such thing and if we had any desire not to have our tomatoes decimated like something out of the Old Testament, we needed to round all those caterpillars up and take them somewhere else.

Since they were so bright, I decided to take them home and photograph them before putting them in an empty lot near us. Turns out they are the caterpillars that will become Black Swallow Tail Butterflies, which live on fennel and dill, and generally don’t seem to do to much harm.

Here’s the pictures at flickr : Black Swallowtail Butterfly Caterpillars
